Hi
I have been asked by a collector friend of mine called Jean Baptiste Brekelmans to upload a message on to this site regarding a group of Commando artefacts that he has recently obtained that belonged to a member of No.2 commando:
"I just picked up this 2 Cmdo grouping to Charles Dettmer at a militaria fair. Could you please do some research for me? He is not mentioned on the the nominal roll on the site under history but this may ne an ommision as it is stated that the list is not complete"
Can any one provide any info regarding this man ie was he in No2 etc?
Cheers Andy

Hi Andy
He certainly was in No.2 Commando. A previous post of mine about him is here:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoForum/posts/list/1212.page
and he is mentioned in the details of this photo
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/2/brunswick/
I believe his service no. was 523008.
As you know a nominal roll of all Army Commandos is in the process of being created and that displayed for No.2 Cdo. is by no means complete.
Could you ask your source for a good picture of him for our gallery
Regards
Pete

Hi Pete
That is excellent news I thought that you would come up with something, I have already asked him if he can scan any of the photos and docs that he has for the gallery. If he does then I will upload these in to the relevant portion of the gallery.
Cheers Andy

Thanks Jean
I have initially posted the picture of the grave of Lieut. Brunswick in his personal album within the No.2 Commando gallery:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/2/brunswick/
I am hoping to have in the coming months the pictures of the CWGC headstones on the graves of all the Commandos at Salerno War Cemetery thanks to a contact in the Royal Navy who has offered to help.
The picture of Charles Dettmer I have placed in the No.2 Commando veterans album with a bit about him:
http://www.commandoveterans.org/cdoGallery/v/units/2/2+Cdo+vets/Charles+Dettmer+No2+Commando+004.jpg.html
The reunion photo is in the No.2 Cdo veterans album:
