I've just come across this IWM film of "The Story of The Green Beret"
i don't think it's been on here before but it tells the story of a couple of guys (one Army , one Royal Marine) as they volunteer to be commandos passing through HOC Wrexham (Towyn for the RM) to Achnacarry then back to HOC Wrexham for further training.
Along the way it shows equipment and techniques and the specialist training such as the cliff climbing at St Ives.
Sliced in at the end are some 'live' operational footage - and the classification at the time?

Most Secret

Enjoy

I can highly recommend this DVD!

The Achnacarry footage includes much that is now commonly used as stock images of Commando training such as the toggle bridge and slide.

And it's all put together with just the right brand of humour :D

Would it be an idea to run the DVD during the Remembrance Weekend in Fort William in November? I bet a lot of people haven't seen it. If needed I can bring the DVD along. Just let me know.

Jack, Bring your copy along.

It used to be played continuously in the Commando Exhibition in the Spean Bridge Hotel. They had a copy stolen a few years back and I replaced it for them; I think it was a video though rather than a DVD.

Regards

G
