68 years ago today 10 men of No.2 Commando and 2 Norwegians took part in Operation Musketoon, a raid on a electricity generating station at Glomfjord in German occupied Norway. Seven of the 10 Commandos were captured and later executed at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. These men are remembered on the Brookwood Memorial

There is also an album in the No.2 Cdo. Gallery with details of the raid, those who were killed, and those who escaped:

In addition one of the Commandos who escaped and made it back to the UK was later killed in action on the 16th February 1944. He is remembered with honour at the Cassino Memorial :

Here is a copy of an article from The Colditz Society, Newsletter 46 of March 2011. The article is about Captain Joseph Houghton MC who was second in command on the raid, captured, and, along with 6 of the other raiders, later executed on the 23rd October 1942. We have several pictures of Captain Houghton MC in our gallery. The article details Joe?s pre-war career and his entry into the forces, his service with No. 2 Commando including the raids on St. Nazaire and Glomfjord, and his subsequent capture and journey as a prisoner to Colditz. It also details the family?s struggle to gain reliable information regarding his treatment by his captors and the part that many Colditz veterans played in the search for the facts.

The article, written by Carol Kerr, is reproduced here with the kind permission of The Colditz Society and Captain Joe Houghton's sister, Mrs Desiree Roderick MBE.

Just a reminder to all that it was on this day, the 23rd October, 69 years ago, that the 7 men from No.2 Commando named above were executed at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. The aforementioned article on Captain Joe Houghton MC is definitely worth downloading and reading
