Pte Urquhart, known as Bertie to family and Bobby to his Commando comrades was killed in action at Lake Commachio on the 2nd April 1945. He had been seriously injured during the Anzio campaign. After months of recouperation and recovery, he pleaded to be returned to fight alongside his comrades. He returned to 5 troop mid March 1945 only to be killed in action at Lake Commachio on the 2nd April 1945. His brother Donald Urquhart has kindly sent photos and letters which are now in our gallery.
The photos of Pte Urquhart, his medals, his will, and a letter from Buckingham Palace after his death, can be seen in the No.9 Commando 'In Remembrance' album on this link:

His 2 letters to his mother I have placed, and cross referenced with the above album, in our 'Letters, Documents, Reports, Maps, and Certificates...' album on this link:

Pte Urquhart was also remembered by his fellow 5 troop comrade Ronald 'Ken' Young who talks fondly of him, and others, in transcripts that can be read in this forum message. They are both now reunited with so many of their Commando colleagues.:

God and the Soldier, all men adore, In time of danger and not before.
When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.
