Very sad news!
Only last year I was able to get a signed copy of his book Invasion. I sent him a message with my best regards and my thanks for signing the book. By receiving the signed copy and sending my thanks, it was as if I had met him. I will cerish the book, that's for sure!

Rest in peace Bill!

I met Bill Millin on a number of occasions in Normandy at D-Day Anniversary celebrations. He was a very modest, gentle and soft-spoken character who was always ready to accept good-natured banter from former Commando colleagues about the quality of his piping in his declining years. Both the Times and the Daily Telegraph have given him prompt and glowing obituaries.

I believe that the Tartan on his beret is that of Clan Cameron of Lochiel. Is that correct? And in what Tartan are his trousers?

Jack

Millin could be a variant of MacMillan (Mac being son of) so I checked their tartans. The trousers are I think the MacMillan old modern tartan.

The statue of Piper BILL MILLIN, should be involved next year, where he and the commandos landed on D.Day.

there is an association, D.Day PIPER BILL MILLIN.

ddaypiperbillmillin.over-blog.com

Any help are welcome.

I'm not a member of this association, but if people can help them, it will be great for this project.

sincerely

stéphane.
