James Dorrian has sent me links to two articles about Maurice Chauvet, No.10 IA Commando. They are in French but a part transalation is below the links:

http://www.photographie.com/?pubid=102399&pag=15&secid=3&rubid=1

Maurice Chauvet, Liaison Officer, aka "The Wolf" is one of the 177 French people have participated in the "grand design" by landing at Colleville-sur-Orne (Sword sector) with the British under the command of Kieffer. He was adviser to the Longest Day / Photography in Ouistreham-Riva Bella Maurice Chauvet holds in his hand a dagger and combat sports "Fairbens" feature of British commandos (named after the British policeman who is the inventor). It was made in the 30s. "We had expected 50% casualties among us, but I always thought that I would draw. "

We learned of the death of Maurice Chauvet, at the age of 92 years. Former Commando Kieffer, he had landed at Ouistreham, 6 June 1944 with the commando battalion of marines. Wounded June 10, it must be evacuated. He was a Corporal (quartermaster) to the Troop 8.
Artist Maurice Chauvet is the man who designed the insignia - always had obviously left in a slightly modified - commando warfare, with the brig and dagger.
Born June 2, 1918, he began in 1936 studying art deco, interrupted by the war. He was mobilized as a seaman gunner on the Georges Leygues. Declining German occupation, he tried going to London, a long journey adventure that will last from January 1941 to June 1943 ... after a passage in Spanish prisons.
After the war, he pursued a career in film, particularly on behalf of Onera, while staying very faithful to the memory of the Kieffer Commando. Adviser to the film The Longest Day, he had published several books recounting the epic "Thousand and one days to D-Day " (Michel Lafon), "It's Long Way to Normandy (Picollec) "Lancelot, free soldier of France"and "Marine, commando of Free France" (Italics traffic Edition).
Strong personality, his relationship with Philippe Kieffer has never been easy. It was a great admirer of Charles Trepel and was, ironically, hardly meets the rebirth of the Kieffer Commando, considering that only had a right to honor the fallen men of the same name.
Maurice Chauvet, who had lost his eyesight in recent years, was an original who was not afraid to appear in plaid pants, distant memory of his visit to the training center Achnacarry. A widower, he was resident Invalides.

Rest in peace Maurice
