Hello Kevin,

The bulk of SSD I made it to China and then back to India, SSD II though was pretty much lost through enemy action, ambushes by Chinese troops, illness and disease and other things, only a few survived. I believe what you say about being disbanded for ill discipline was actually a unit raised locally from India and Burma and not from SSD I or II.

Pete, l've had a quick read of your attachment regarding 204, years ago I uploaded a photo of Major Bob English who was running the Bush Warfare Training School to this site. In his original photo the lorry in the background had Military Mission 204 inscribed on the door, so Bob English was there and the same rank as Mike Calvert, but there is no mention of Bob in anything about The Bush Warfare Training School, which I found strange.

Hi Kevin, the Pete who was posting on the WW2 Talk forum on the link I provided earlier is not me. I don?t want to go too much off track from the heading for this forum message which was looking for info on Byron Jenkins. If you create a new forum message under looking for information and title it Major Bob English we and others can all add the bits we know of him. Hope you understand my reasons for this.

Hello All!

Thank you for your help. I followed a link Pete sent above to an archive and noticed my grandfather in SSD1. I checked the photos I have of my grandfather during his time in the war and I have the exact same photo in my files as one of the photos in the archive. I?ve attached it.

I believe I may have some additional photos of the people in SSD1 and the training school in Burma if anyone is interested?
