Updated & Revised Nominal Rolls

I have just noticed my fathers name on your nominal role.
The full details are pte Venn, len. 4077222, unit No 1 commando. host unit SWB.
My father died on the 6TH June 1983.
He served with the independent companies in Norway.

Some of you may have spotted that the Nominal Rolls for Nos 1 through to No 12 Commandos had been added recently in a new format replacing the old versions that had to be downloaded to view. I have now also added a similar revised format for the RN Commando Nominal Roll. They can be accessed by opening the relevant Commando Unit in the WW2 Commando Units section on the Home Page navigation menu.

Credit for much of the actual content on the Nominal Rolls must go to Nick Collins and Graham Cooper. Many of you will already know Nick as he is the Forum moderator, a member of our research group, and has responsibility for the Nominal Rolls. Graham is part of our small group of volunteers on the research group, and he has been a fantastic asset to that group. His excellent research into all those who served in the Commandos, combining information from what we already had, along with information he discovered from official records, has enabled the Commando Veterans Archive to have an unprecedented record of those who served including all who died both during the war, and since the war.

Thank you Pete - thank you all for the fantastic job you do. This is my first port of call if anyone mentions that they're looking for someone who may or may not have been a Commando. I always direct them here.

It was updated with the additional detail by myself in preparation of creating a bio page on your Father regarding his award. I have seen a reference to and a photo of your Father in Stewart McClean?s book called SAS, The History of the SRS.
