I have to say that the weekend was probably the best yet. The hotel was fantastic and I thank Fred and Joan Davies for that. The Saturday was great as we took advantage of the NMA events for Armed Forces Day; the bar was a great distraction which got us in the mood for the evening events. The evening dinner was excellent, the food, the service, the entertainment and of course the company. Wartime Commando Veterans, post-war Commando veterans, serving Army Commandos, families and friends. We had an excellent draw thanks to our diamond Sylvie T and most danced until after mid-night -last man standing circa 0430hrs (Ernie Mason No 3 Cdo). I have to say that the Summer Service on the Sunday morning was just perfect. Those that were able marched up the main avenue and were halted by the Commando Memorial. Our very own Commando Reverend, George Parsons (No 2 Cdo) delivered a beautiful service with all in attendance giving their all with the hymns and responses. Debbie Wood belted out a pitch perfect Last Post and Rouse on the bugle in honour of her Granddad the late John Morgan (No 3 Cdo). Billy and L.T of the Commando Loggies delivered an honourable Exhortation and Kohima, and our President Brigadier Jack Thomas (No 6 Cdo) laid the CVA wreath in proud memory of our Commando comrades. After a group photo of all in attendance we said our fond farewells, some staying to enjoy the many other areas of the Arboretum and others departing for an afternoon of recovery.
Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see you again next year.
