Another name mentioned by John M. earlier in this message is that of Philip Pinckney. Chris Rooney has advised me that Philip Pinckney was at Anderson Manor at the same time as his father. Captain Pinckney, was killed on active service with 2 SAS. As with others he progressed from 12 Commando to the SSRF and onto the SAS. He was in the Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry in 1939. He is mentioned a great deal in the Memories of Sgt John Huntington of 12 Commando which is on our site:

The other section was commanded by the best Officer, man and gentleman who I have ever met in my life, no matter where I went he was Lt. Philip Pinckney

Pete Rogers, son of LSgt Joe Rogers MM & nephew of TSM Ken McAllister. Both No2 Commando.

When the danger is passed and all things righted, God is forgotten, and the Soldier slighted.

69 years ago this week a raid by the SSRF codenamed Operation Aquatint at Saint Honorine took place.

In Memory of the following who did not make it back:

Major GUSTAVUS HENRY MARCH-PHILLIPPS DSO, MBE, MiD
Royal Artillery and Commanding Officer Small Scale Raiding Force
who died age 34 on 12 September 1942

Serjeant ALLEN MICHAEL WILLIAMS
The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) and, Small Scale Raiding Force
who died age 22 on 12 September 1942

and

Private RICHARD LEHNIGER
Pioneer Corps and, Small Scale Raiding Force
who died age 42 on 13 September 1942
(Served as LEONARD). Son of Gustav and Gisela Lehniger; husband of Julie Lehniger, of Yeovil, Somerset. Born at Petschau, Bohemia.

All Remembered with honour at ST. LAURENT-SUR-MER CHURCHYARD
