Popping back after nearly a year with some graffiti for you!
Whilst in the Drop Redoubt fort in Dover a couple of weeks ago, I found graffiti inside an 1860s side arms store that relates to Operation Abercrombie, the April 42 Boulogne raid. It belongs to two Canadians of the Carleton and York Regiment who launched the raid in conjunction with No.4 Commando.
The graffiti, as far as I can make out, reads:
1) G21001 Pvt (?) AKERLEY D.Coy C.Y.R. Canada Apral 22 1942
2) ROYAAL DINGHY W.SPRING T.R. B.Coy C.Y.R. Canada
Unfortunately I have way of telling if these two soldiers took part in the raid or were amongst the 60 or so left behind in the old fort. I was really pleased to discover these!
