Bit of a long shot perhaps but can anyone ID the man escorting the surrendered SS-Karstjaeger?

Cheers

That's a very interesting photo Steve - can you tell us anything else about it?

It appears that the soldier carrying the white flag is unarmed yet the blindfolded German still has his side arm.

It would appear to be in a country of warm climate yet the bereted soldier is still wearing his battledress trousers and not shorts.

I must admit the scene looks very much like Italy.

Hi,
This photo was taken in Italy as you say. It was taken in May 1945 when the surrender of the German forces was being arranged.

No information on the officer I am afraid. This photo has appeared in several books in the past. Mainly because of the insignia, anti-partisan badge, the German officer is wearing.

Maybe the IWM Photo Department has the original and can supply the information you want.

Regards

Danny
