The CVA published a commemorative cover a couple of years ago (Lt George Knowland VC) with the help of John Mewett, who came up with the original idea. The intention was to continue with a series of covers, initially commemorating the eight Commando VC winners, the sales of which would raise money for the Memorial Fund.

Unfortunately, the initial cover was very expensive to produce due to the fact that we used a professional company who charged for design/artwork etc as well as for printing; we also ordered too many copies, of which only a percentage have sold. Well, we have learned from this and rather than leaving it there, we have decided to revisit the commemorative covers, however this time we would like to open up the design/artwork to you our members, and the printing will be achieved at a much lower cost by using our regular CVA printer. The idea will be to print only 200 copies of each future cover, and to sell them at a reduced price of £2.99 rather than £4.99. This will cover the cost of printing and postage, the emphasis being on the celebration of the event and promotion of the history of the Commandos, rather than the raising of any funds.

So, if we have any budding artists out there, or if you know of anyone who would like to offer their services, then please feel free to submit any ideas to me via email or post. Please use the original cover as a template:

Our next covers will be in VC recipient order as per our Victoria Cross page, starting with Lt Col Geoffrey Keyes VC., MC. No 11 Commando. There will be no timeframe between each, so if a particular VC winner interests you then please feel free to submit your ideas accordingly.

Ideally, submissions should be approx. 90% completed, with only a small amount of titivation required. The successful entries will have the honour of having their work published and will receive a copy of the respective cover.

As an extra cover, artwork ideas would be welcomed for a '70th Anniversary of the Forming of the Commandos' cover, which would have to be ready by this coming May.

Any volunteers?
