Hi Gary and welcome to the CVA.. Some links for you to check out are listed below:

BBC WW2 People's war stories about 47 RM Commando's part in the Normandy landings and their ultimate objective of Port en Bessin:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ww2peopleswar/stories/53/a2579853.shtml

47 RM Commando Association website where Cyril is on their roll of honour and a picture of his gravestone is displayed:
http://www.47commando.org.uk/1024/Index.html

Mark Smith provided some photos to the CVA of his great Uncle Harold Plank who was in 47 RM Cdo and was also sadly killed in action. It may be worth contacting him as he was doing some research which may also benefit you in your research. If you do a search in the forum on Harold Plank you will see there are numerous entries with snippets of information and reference to books. Marks email address is under his profile. A book called From Omaha to the Scheldt by John Forfar will provide some information about the Unit. I know Stephen Donnison of this site has a copy of the book and may be able to check for you to see if Cyril is mentioned. Send Stephen a private message (pm).

If you do find anything other than from this site we would all like to know a bit more and should you have any photos of Cyril and wish to place them on our site as a lasting tribute I can assist you in this as I did for Mark in respect of his great uncle Harold on this link:

Good luck in your search

Pete

Hello GARY

I've got the address about the chairman or secretary of the
47 RM association.
But I need to find it. I don't know if he's still alive.
when i'll find it, I will send it to you by private e-mail.

sincerely
