Dear sir/madam
I wonder if you can help me i'm trying to trace my grandfathers miltary service during WWII. I know his parent regiment and that he became a commando serving in the far east.
I'm looking for his service record, and any photos that maybe around.
His details are as follows:
Wilfred David Townley
21.03.21
I believed he joined the shropshire light infantry, then moved to the RASC before joining the commandos on thier formation. I've been advised that he served in no 3 troop no 5 commando.
Any help or guidance you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Lee Townley

Hi Lee,
Welcome to the CVA forum and very good luck with your search and research into your grandfather's military service.
I have particular interest in your quest as my father, Michael (Mick) Collins, also served in No 5 Commando.
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much information about No 5 on the forum yet but your query has certainly given me great hope that someone else will join and give us info about Mick & Wilf.
I'm quite excited now...
Cheers,
Nick

Hello
I have few photos about 5 cdo veterans taken when I went to some ceremonies. But unfortunately, I don't know their name and troop.
Maybe someone could know them.
I know more about commandos unit involved in Normandy.
bye

This is one photo about a 5 cdo vet.
Other will come soon. I'm going to Dieppe tomorrow morning and I will stay there for one week.
I attend the last Commando Association reunion in sept. 2005 in Portsmouth.
I've taken many photos, some were 5 cdo.
But I need to find them in my albums.
bye
