Hello !

Sorry for my English which is not to be exceptional.

So, I am looking for information about O.Gouriou, a french commando that was in the 1st BFMC (the Headquarters), commissioned by Philippe Kieffer.

Do you have any information about this man? I find no photo of him, and amazingly, not even his first name!

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me in my research ...

I am also seeking information on the abbot "René de Naurois", who was also in the Headquarters with Gouriou.

Best regards,

Mullins.

Mullins,

Have found something that may be of interest, from what I can make out O.Gouriou's first name looks to be Olivier. Please look at the attached file, it's not a lot, but a start. Also try the link below, there's a lot of information in French.

Mullins,

You've probably tried this but I just googled René de Naurois and a whole bunch of information comes back. If it's the same gentlemen, he lived to 100 years and has quite a story.

Hello Vic and thank you for this great information!

It's a very good start and I even believe that this has allowed me to find his hometown. I'll let you know if so.

About René de Naurois, I have all the information available on the internet, but I was mainly in search of archival photographs, for example.

Also, do you think it is a photo of Olivier Gouriou somewhere in archives?

Thanks again,

Best regards,

Mullins.

Mullins,

I could not find a photo of O.Gourgio but several good group shots of the French Commandos. I guess it will have to be a process of elimination from the named members photos and hope one stands out.

With regards to René de Naurois, it also appears he wrote a book, if you don't already have it I would check it out.

Good luck

Regards Vic

Corporal O Gouriou was one of the 177 French Commandos that took part in the D-Day Landings on 6 June 1944.
Keiffer's 1er BFMC were issued individual cap badges each had a unique number - Gouriou was issued with No 12.
